ISRAEL , ANOTHER CRUSADE Long before colonizing the Arab world, the Europeans used Religion in their crusades and acted under the banner of the Church. These crusades lasted many centuries but the last one failed and the crusaders were defeated and ousted . This does not mean that the project of occupation was buried . The Europeans still sought to occupy this area but were prevented by the strong Ottoman army which stood in their way . When the Ottoman Empire grew weak, the campaigns started again and Egypt was to fall under Bonaparte’s rule .The colonial scheme that targeted Palestine and the rest of the area was not initiated by the Church this time nor did it use Christianity as it did during the crusades . Christianity being the Religion of the colonizer , fighting under its banner would have been too challenging and a reminder of the crusades and would have rallied Arabs and Muslims against the campaign .
