IT IS FINISHED WE CAN STRIVE TO IGNORE POOR CHOICES BUT WE WILL - TopicsExpress

IT IS FINISHED WE CAN STRIVE TO IGNORE POOR CHOICES BUT WE WILL NEVER ESCAPE THEIR CONSEQUENCES We live in a stressed filled society. There are many excuses but few if any reasons why stress prevails in lives today. Most of them are related to the secular world and cannot be responded to in a successful manner with any answer the world has to offer. Recently I heard of a man who stepped down from a $500,000 a year position and accepted another job that only paid $100,000. When asked why, he replied that he would probably only live another year if he remained in his former position. Everyone is acquainted with stress. Some will experience anxiety more than others. If you were to ask a hundred people to describe pressure you would almost certainly get a hundred different answers. The final analysis would lead us to a single summation. Everyone knows that there is life after this life though some refuse to admit it. There is a fork in the road of life that demands a choice. Life “can not” be put on pause. We are all faced with choices and those of us who choose wide of the mark know full well what we have done. We can strive to ignore poor choices but we will never escape their consequences. This is the constant worry that cannot be adjusted. Many have made the wrong choice and now feel trapped. I have counseled countless cases in just such circumstance. I cannot explain the hopelessness I feel when I fail to help someone in this type of quandary. Each failure seems to add another layer to the memory bank that won’t go away. I know that a pastor “can not” hold on to the problems of everyone he counsels but I also realize that knowing a multitude of heartaches cannot be considered just another day at the office. I suppose that it was the culmination of a thousand different circumstances that caused this poem to roar out of me at about two in the morning. I awoke abruptly, stumbled to the kitchen table and wrote ‘IT IS FINISHED’ barely knowing that I had done it. The next morning I found the scribbled poem on a piece of scratch paper on the kitchen table. There were five verses that still stir my soul to this day. As I read it and re-read it I realized that something was missing. ‘IT IS FINISHED’ – wasn’t finished. The Spirit of God moved on me and in seconds I wrote verse number six IT IS FINISHED John 19:30 – When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: Darkness you could feel prevailed Screams and pleas were to no avail Hope was lost completely gone Then came silence – an eerie calm A voice rang out declaring the end Millions were thee but none could defend The enemy was present but couldn’t be seen I was gripped with fear – this was no dream A pitched voice pierced the night air I had no choice, not even a prayer Demons danced for joy and laughed with glee “It’s over, you’re finished” they said to me Hope was a memory I knew the decree Tears flowed like a river as I fell to my knees I knew of no action, there was nothing I could do It is over, I am finished, and it’s certainly true Suddenly a light flashed on the scene Demons cowered, unable to work their evil scheme A trail of blood led me to the one Who said, “It is over, it is finished, I am the son” It is finished but the victory has just begun You have failed, but in spite of what you’ve done Calvary did not fail, Satan has not won Jesus said “it is finished, I am the son” R.L.
