IT WAS MY TURN . . . TO READ THE BIBLE IN SCHOOL. WHAT WAS I - TopicsExpress

IT WAS MY TURN . . . TO READ THE BIBLE IN SCHOOL. WHAT WAS I GOING TO READ? I HAD NO IDEA. The school was Edison Junior High School. The school year was 7th grade, 1961/62. I was 13 or 14. I did not know much about the Bible. It was not something I read. But, it was my turn and I had to come up with a scripture to read to start the day in homeroom. What was it going to be? I vaguely remember sitting in our living room, looking through our family Bible that I still have today, over 50 years later. I remember the struggle, searching for what to read. I had no idea where to go in the book. Of course, if you didnt know anything about the Bible and you had to pick something to read, what did many pick other than . . . you guessed it, the 23rd Psalm, even if someone had read it before, and they did . I vaguely remember being in class, standing before everyone, ready to read. And this is what I read . . . . _________________________________________________________ PSALM 23 - The Lord the SHEPHERD of His People - A Psalm of David. THE LORD is MY SHEPHERD; I shall not want. (I shall not lack any good thing) The Lord MAKES ME .... to lie down in green pastures; The Lord LEADS ME ..... beside the still waters. The Lord RESTORES ... my soul; The Lord LEADS ME ..... in the paths of righteousness ... For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; ... For ... ... You are with me; ... ... Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. ... ... You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; ... ... You anoint my head with oil; ... ... My cup runs over. Surely ... goodness and mercy shall follow me ... ... All the days of my life; ... ... I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. __________________________________________________________ Those were different days. A time when God was accepted as part of our school day. A time of innocence for children. A time when we were happy to be with best school friends, like, Albie C., Mike P., Tom M., John A. Dennis G., Sylvia H., Jim M., and many others. A time when teachers were our respected authorities - Mr. Study, Mr. Kline, Mr. Poteat, and so on. A time when guys and girls were swooning innocently over one another at the school dance, walking home from school, in the halls. Those were different days. But Psalm 23 is still the same and will always be the same, whether God is accepted in our schools, our government, our society, or not. He is still the same - THE LORD is MY SHEPHERD. https://youtube/watch?v=A-qLa_2GPcM
