Id like to put this out there for feedback but please be tactful in your responses... I dont quite understand why servers get so upset when their guests dont tip them enough. I, as most people do, go out to eat because I dont want to cook, dont want to clean, feel like being waited on, etc. and the person who takes my order and brings me my food is employed by the restaurant to take my order and bring me my food - thats their job, thats what the wage they earn compensates them for. Providing above and beyond customer service is great and that is or at least should be the goal every employee in the customer service industry is striving for. Why, then, does someone that earns a wage for the job they applied for and accomplishes the goal that everyone else in their industry is (arguably) striving to accomplish, entitled to extra money? I understand that its customary to tip and, because its the status quo, do tip and tip well (only ever opting not to when my service is especially poor) but who decided in the first place that certain jobs are tip-worthy and others arent? Because they work really hard? Because they spend their whole shift on their feet? Because they deal with rude people sometimes? Ive held jobs in which I did all of those things and never received a tip. In fact, more members of the labor force dont. Its just a crazy concept to me.
