‘If rakyat loves peace like I do, use the freedom wisely,’ Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah today expressed his sadness over the threat of religious extremism which saw certain quarters being lured into joining jihadist movement in foreign countries. The sultan, who is also the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong stressed that it was a sin for Muslims to murder fellow Muslims, which totally contradicts the true Islamic teachings that propagates peace. These so called jihadists action in killing fellow Muslims is a sin, as pointed out in Al Quran. Repent and return to the true Islamic teachings which embrace peace. I urge parents to closely monitor their children from being influenced by ideologies which contradicts the true Islamic teachings, the King said in his speech at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Sultan of Kedahs 87th birthday at Istana Anak Bukit here today. His speech was read by Sultan of Kedah Council of Regency chairman Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah. The King also expressed his concern on the inter-racial and religious harmony which being compromised by those abusing the freedom of speech. It is obvious that the Federal Constitution was formulated to prevent conflict among the rakyat. If the rakyat loves peace and stability like I do, use the freedom wisely, said the King. On Kedah development, the King expressed his wish that the Federal government would expedite the approval of Kulim International Airport which was proposed by the state government. I am confident that the project will be a catalyst to spur economic growth in the northern states while creating jobs and business opportunities while serving as an additional attraction for industrial players such as aviation industry, the King said.
