If you are thinking fruit smoothies from restaurants specializing in specifically smoothies are a great way to lose weight, you might want to reconsider. Fruit IS healthy for you. But these services ADD sugar or sugar substitutes (toxic!) into your fruit drink. Also, hard fruit (complex carb) does not cause a rise in blood sugars like Liquid fruits (simple carbs) will cause a rise. The higher the rise, the more you overwork the pancreas in producing sufficient insulin to bring the blood sugars back down. Overworking the pancreas leads to decreased insulin production bringing about diabetes. Over production of insulin from all the liquid fruit sugars will store the excess sugars (calories) INSIDE FAT CELLS... yes, that is right... weight gain. So How Can You Have Them to Still Be Healthy?? 1) Ask for "NO SUGAR" and "NO SUGAR SUBSTITUTES" 2) Share your smoothie to make it more of an actual proper serving size 3) Try to get smoothies that have vegetables in it as well, just to cut back on the amount of sugars in fruits 4) Add protein powders to them if you like. It provides a "tug of war" type effect on the rise of blood sugars and decreases the insulin production. -Christie
