If you ask most people what cars are for the answer would probably be personal transport. I think that most people wear their car as a fashion accessory and play with it like a toy. This is fine (what ever floats your boat) as long as if you are going to do anything that is potentially dangerous; you do it on a track away from the public who don’t want to play dangerous games. I don’t start the driving lesson with the stern waning “This is not a toy”. I do however point out that a car is a dangerous piece of kit and that the driver is responsibility for what it does. If you didn’t see a child run out from in-between parked cars in time to prevent an accident you may well have to explain why you were driving that speed past them in the first place. When I was a lorry driver I thought it was great fun to do hand-break turns in the snow with a lorry the size of a double-decker bus. I did this in the yard at six o’clock in the morning so the only danger was to me (I could find myself grovelling to the transport manager to retain my job if I tipped it over). I am now a grownup (allegedly) so I think I have outgrown that behaviour.
