If you make emotional investments then anguish of some kind is inevitable. Just understand that you may have inadvertently created your own pain by virtue of your expectations. Understand that the other person is not you, does not think like you do, and is not wrong for being that way. Think of how life would be if you were forced to live up to your emotional demands that you put on others. Love and friendship allow others to be what they are and hopefully that works for you. You cannot create a world in your mind and expect anyone to live there. Likewise, they have done nothing against you by not agreeing to. When they love you back in their way appreciate it. You may get nothing else from anyone. If you can find the path to loving another, in THEIR way, you will have the most loyal of friends and allies and with proper exchange, a partner for life.
