Illicit timber seized in Kupwara =>The forest officials in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday seized a large quantity of illicit timber from a tipper, officials told GNS Friday. “We had information that a tipper (JK03D - 3099) is supplying illegal timber from last one month. Since last week, we started to follow it. Today we were able to capture it with the help of police at Kutlari, Mawar.” Range Officer Mawar Langate, Fayaz Ahmad told GNS. He said that smugglers had concealed the timber with sand and stones in order to avoid any suspicion. He said the tipper has been confiscated and kept at the police station Qalamabad “The tipper driver is absconding. We unlocked the tipper using a nail,” he said. Meanwhile, claiming the credit of the recovery, police said that forest officials had no role in the operation. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Kupwara, Maqsood-ul-Zamaan told GNS that the forest officials have no role in the recovery. “It was our input and we recovered it,” he said, adding further investigations are in progress. Meanwhile, a case 379 under Forest Act has been lodged in this regard. (GNS)
