Im a reader. Always have been. On Jan. 1st, 1992, at my wifes suggestion, I started logging books that I read. Tonight, I logged number 1700. Thats about 77 per year. The Book Thief was number 1700. And it is one of my all time favorites. A good read will impact your life if in no other manner than to cause serious reflection. This one certainly does that. The story set in Nazi Germany is about an orphan girl whose foster parents teach her to read while hiding a Jew in their basement. Within the past three years I visited Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany and Terenzin Concentration Camp in the Czech Republic and perhaps that has caused the book to cause such a visceral reaction.
