Im eating breakfast, and the guy next to me asks what I do. I tell him I make videos. He tells me is is a street performer. Cool. Then he goes on to explain how all the worlds problems are caused by Jews. Not cool. After a few minutes of listening to this, I decided I wasnt going to remain quiet and ignore the crazy person, like society trains us to do. Over and over, the message is: dont feed the trolls, it wont make a difference, it will just make you more upset, etc. So I tried to connect with him in a genuine manner. At this point, he was bragging about his claim to fame, being known as the Anti-Semetic Elmo. Like, really? You are actually proud of this? There are lots of things we can do that will almost guaranteed make us famous, but that doesnt mean anything else. It doesnt make your idea valid, or even something to be proud of. I told him about a time in my life where I was quick to reassign blame to others for my own struggles. I told him how I was unable to see it at the time, but it all seemed clear now. It was hard to know it was even happening. Then I asked him, if it were happening to you, how would you know? What signs would you look for? I left it as a rhetorical question, grabbed my check, and headed out.
