Kaduna Residents Protest Demolition Of Buildings Residents of Danholu community in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state are protesting what they claimed to be a sudden action of demolition of the part of the State government, saying no amount of intimidation by government will stop them from building on the land which they say, rightly belongs to them. The sleepy community of Danholu was traumatized on Saturday, August 4th, as bulldozers from the state urban planning and development authority (KAPSUDA) demolished over 30 buildings which had been illegally developed by unauthorized persons. The demolition came to the natives by surprise. Those whose houses were affected are still in shock that the fruit of their hard labour have been destroyed by government. No fewer than 30 houses were affected. However, the demotion has not stopped the natives from erecting new structures. The affected structures in Danholu, a suburb in Kaduna metropolis were demolished by the agency, while natives insisted that they were not contacted before the demolition. Reacting to the claims of the residents, the development control agency of Kaduna state government said that the owners of such illegal structures were duly informed some months ago not to build on the said land. The acting general manager of Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority(KAPSUDA), Mrs Saratu Haruna hinted that government paid compensation to the community before acquiring the land and wondered why the villagers , through the district head are still encroaching into the same land. She however warned that the agency will not relent in its commitment to ensure that the master plan of the eastern district of the state capital is maintained and obeyed. The village head of Danholu, Bala Seriki, told Channels Television that the land in question belongs to the community and he wonders why the state government has decided to encroach into their own portion in spite of the agreement it entered with the community some years back.
