Im gonna jump in and give my thoughts on the school boards decisions to close 2 schools and a 4 day school week. I know that some will disagree with all or parts but just my thoughts.. 1st.. cuts are never good, people are effected but in most cases they are necessary.. The School Board doesnt have the $$ it once had pure and simple..When the mill went down so did those tax $$s, as well as the $$ that was spent buy these folks here in town..its a trickle down thing..People arent going to vote for higher taxes so I guess after shuffling there money like we all do the closing of 2 schools was necessary.. If the choice of schools was correct, I have no idea..on the 4 day week, I have mixed thoughts..these younger children already have to get up and be in class ready to learn entirely to early..Adding to there day will only make those little wore out brains go into overdrive.. I see grade school children up from me getting off of the bus at 5:30-5:45 as it is, to late for babies to be coming home from school..But thats what busing all over the parish does....But would the extra day out give them the opportunity to work on some things at home so that so much isnt required during the week? My main point is coming and will chap some butt Im sure..Ive read comment after comment from parents concerned with their child care arrangements.. This has gotten me fired up..it is not the school boards responsiblity to see that you have child care..Your children go to school to be taught by teachers who arent paid nearly enough..they didnt go into debt and invest years in college to babysit your kids..And if the lack of child care is your biggest concern in this whole thing, Im sure your involvement with your childrens school and grades reflect this kind of thinking..These things will not go into effect for several months, you have plenty of time to get a babysitter.. This kind of reminds me of the things I see posted around Christmas.. Always same ones, my baby wont have Santa this year without some help...Christmas comes the same day every year, its not a sneaky holiday..Neither will these changes with the schools be a sneak attack...Get ready cause its coming...
