Im listening to a speech Obama made to West Point cadets, as well as an analytical interpretation of that speech. Its VERY clear why he locks horns with the military. First-my thoughts: He keeps saying that any military has to be just and proportional to the threat. Our military isnt trained that way. Our military is trained to respond to all threats the exact same way-theres no little bit of a threat. Theres something called violence of action, which means we see a threat and we hit them with everything weve got as fast as we can. We rely on speed and overwhelming violence to crush any opposition. The point of war is to crush the will of anyone who would stand against us, not killing as many people as possible, though they can go hand in hand, depending on the enemy. In this speech, the president says the opposite of all that. He said that unless we are directly threatened, unless LIVES are directly threatened, we will not unilaterally act-we will seek approval from the international community. Basically, he told the world that anything up to killing a bunch of people would be acceptable. And now we have cyber terrorism. Yes, I think this couldve happened to any sitting president, but if he doesnt take this threat seriously, were in trouble. This IS a life-threatening situation. What if the Sony hack was a dry run to test our defenses? What if an attack on the power grid is next? An EMP? These arent just instances of losing power. Everything we do relies on electricity. The batteries that power your cars rely on electricity. Life saving medical equipment, entire hospitals rely on electricity and computer networks. Money would be useless-we couldnt get to it, and people would no longer accept it anyway. Most money is electronic funds. A WMD loaded with an EMP detonated above us in the atmosphere would cripple us, and people would die, without a single shot ever being fired. I know this sounds all crazy prepper, but every major story starts out as a conspiracy theory. Snowden and the NSA, Watergate, what Hitler was doing to the Jews, all of it. If the right people are worried about it, then so am I. Hearing Obama speak to these West Point Cadets though-wow. He might as well have invited the world to mess with us and our allies, so long as they didnt start killing people. Then, by God, well do something.
