Im not fighting Mudavadi, says UDFs Khalwale TUESDAY, NOV 5 2013 BY HILTON OTENYO Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale has said he has no personal differences with his party leader Musalia Mudavadi. Khalwale said the perception that he is fighting the UDF boss is a misinterpretation of the real facts on the ground. “There is nothing personal between me and Mudavadi. It is only that he and I have taken difference positions on the Bungoma by-election,” he said. He was speaking at a funeral in Lihrembe village in Ikolomani on Saturday. Khalwale said he decided to support Moses Wetangulas attempt to recapture the Bungoma senator seat because UDF is not fielding a candidate. Ford Kenyas Wetangula lost the seat on September 30 after a successful election petition by New Ford Kenyas Musikari Kombo. Kombo will vie against Wetangula for senator in the December 19 by-election. Khalwale said UDF members agreed to pull out of the Bungoma repeat polls collectively. He said members then asked Mudavadi to convince the Jubilee alliance to withdraw its candidate from the Lamu governor by- election and back the UDF candidate but it did not. “UDF has an agreement with Jubilee. Jubilee has insisted it must field a candidate against Issa Timamy. It is not behaving like a partner because it wants to snatch a seat from us,” Khalwale said. He said is supporting Wetangula because a win for him will be a big score for Luhya unity. Members in Nairobi, Kakamega and Vihiga counties have asked UDF headquarters to kick Khalwale out of the party for violating the provisions of the Elections Act 2011. They said Khalwale has disregarded the law in a bid to achieve fame. The members accused him of being used by Cord leaders to create a separate centre of power ahead of the 2017 general election. Khalwale has dissented on all party decisions since he was elected senator on March 4.
