Im not overstating when I say this has been one of the worst days of my life. 4 of my evil monster dogs attacked my miniature horse this morning. It was my fault , just because they left him alone yesterday, I thought I could just check on him every 15 minutes in the pasture. That was plenty of time for my dogs to tear him to pieces . There was so much blood & hes black so I couldnt tell how bad or where his injuries where. Blood was dripping off him & the dogs where covered in it. Of course, Mark was off working the ER. I call one of two large animal vets here & got Dr Bussy at Cumberland Vet. I hate that guy & I dont hate anybody. I told him that it felt like he had a serious wound around his testicles & gaping wounds to numerous to count. He said wed just have to wait a few days & see how bad he was hurt! Not one suggestion as to what to do. My dear friend Amber Amber Bow had told me to try putting flour or Vaseline in the wounds to stop the bleeding. I did that , or at least I tried to do that & some of them did stop bleeding. Amber gave me the number to the other vet & I left desperate messages over serval hours. I call our go to guy Randy but he didnt pick up so I sent him a 911 text but got no response. I spent the next hours watching poor Sawyer bleed all over his pen & not eat or drink. He was barely walking & seemed so weak. I was helpless to do anything, all I could do was stand by him & cry like a little girl. Finally in the afternoon Randy got my message & help arrived. Jeanine Potter his wife is some kind of horse whisperer, their son Chase & his girlfriend. They managed to lay him in his side & thats when we saw the extent of his injuries. So much worse than I had pictured in my mind. He was nearly castrated & had a large , really deep would on his inner thigh. I forgot to mention the dogs had trapped him between the fence & the gas tank. The hose that comes from the tank to the metal pole sticking out of the ground had been broken off in the scuffle & I could hear & smell gas pouring out. Sawyer must have sat down on, broke it off & tore himself open. I called that worthless Dr Bussy back & told him how bad it was. He said what he always says when you have an injured animal, sounds like we need to put him down. Of course I yelled at him & asked him what was the matter with him, he hadnt even seen the horse yet. I told him needed him to come out here & evaluate him & help him, not kill him. The SOB agreed to come . Thank God, just when I hung up the phone the other vet, Dr Nathan Perry called me back. He said he would come right out so I had the extreme pleasure of calling Dr Bussy & telling him to kiss my ass. Dr Perry was wonderful. He was calm and kind & told me Sawyer was going to be ok. Jeanine & Randy & Chase had gotten him into the garage where he wouldnt be so cold, he was shaking & his gums where white from blood loss. They had cleaned him up quite a bit before the vet got here. He sedated him & when we laid him down we really saw for the first time how bad it was. His sack was ripped open & you could see his testicles nearly falling out. The large gapping wound on his inner thigh was so deep & the tissue inside looked like hamburger. And thats only the two worst wounds. There where dozens, from the barbed wired he had tried to jump over & dog bites. Honest to God, I thought maybe I was having a nightmare. I could not believe what was happening. Dr Perry castrated him right there on my garage floor. Poor Sawyer was sedated but not knocked completely out, he was jerking & I knew he was suffering. We had to hold him down. The vet sewed him up a little but left most of it open because its so deep. He said it would take months to heal from the inside out & hell be on antibiotics the entire time. He said dont be freaked out if pieces of tissue fall out & there will be lots of drainage. But he says in 3-4 weeks he might seem back to normal. I will have to walk him everyday because hes not going to want to move much. Because of where the wound is I wont be able to see it unless he is sedated so Ill have to keep an eye on the drainage & smell. Dr Perry at Homestead Vet Clinic is fantastic. He really seemed to care about Sawyer & explained everything so well. Dr Bussy, on the other hand, clearly hates sick & injured animals. He told us to put our little DoWe, a Pekingese puppy, to sleep when he was only 6 weeks old because he was born a serious birth defect. But with absolute devotion & round the clock care, he turn the corner at about 6 months & lived 2 1/2 wonderful, happy years. Thats when we stopped using Upper Cumberland Vet Clinic. Hes a horrible human being & has no business in the business hes in. Sorry to go on & on with this story of how bad my day was. Maybe I just need someone to feel sorry for me, but I needed to tell it. My heros, Randy Potter & Chase Chase Potter, are going to put me up a proper horse fence to keep Sawyer safe. I cant tell how they, along with the real hero of this story, Jeanine Potter, came to my rescue today. And of course, Chasess girlfriend, whos name escapes me at the moment. I am very blessed to have such stand up people in my life. I dont even know how to put into words what they did meant to me. I only hope that I can repay them someday. God bless them & my sweet little horse too. As for the dogs involved in the attack, mark will have to feed them & pet them & see to their needs for awhile because I cant stand to look at them. And I will be beating myself up daily until Sawyer is healed & happy again. It was irresponsible of me to go inside the house with him in the pasture. I dont know why I thought I could trust those dogs to behave for two days in a row. I might just muzzle everyone involved with those muzzles that allow them to eat & drink but not bark or bite. I had to pepper spray each & everyone of them to get them away from Sawyer. Not a lot of love in my heart for Chili, Iko, Dylan, and Ryder at the moment. Sawyer may be healed by the time my heart melts enough for me to forgive them
