Im not sure why, but on Oct 12th each year...I seem to acquire a bug and it lasts, with some trepidation, for a day or so !!! Deb sys its the anniversary bug....8 years ago, at 9am, on Oct 12th 2006.....I got my replacement kidney and began my NEW life as a transplant patient !!! The next morning, 8 years ago today, I had something for breakfast that I was resigned to never eat again....bananas, orange slices, and grapes. I also had a few other potassium laden products......but the absolute best thing was....3 cups of black coffee with sweet-n-low and some creamer...a GREAT TRAT as I was limited to ONE LITER of fluid, of any kid, per day !!! Coffee has too much phosphorous, so THAT was something I was to avoid as well. I had been living off of small bottles of Diet Mt Dew and Diet A&W Root Beer....approved for dialysis patients. Anddddd, the piesto resistance.....NO MORE hollow number 10 gauge needles in my arm, three times a week, and a 3 hour session in the cchair at my dialysis center in Arkadelphia !!!! No more dizynes, no more high blood pressure, no more irritable bowels, no more barfing right after dialysis, andddd...no more watching people around me doe waiting for their transplants !!! Kidney disease strikes 1 in 16 people here in the US. Andddd the average wait time for a lidney transplant is around 5 years, if you can survive the wait !!! DONT TAKE YOUR ORGANS TO HEAVEN....HEAVEN KNOWS WE NEED THEM HERE !!! When you elect to become a donor, or tell your family you WANT to become a donor should you be unable to do so....at your demise....you will be able to save the lives of AT LEAST 5 people....and perhaps help countless others too through skin grafts for burn patients, allow some one to see again.....theres sooo much you can do to help !!! The story of my transplant is nothing short of a miracle....I was on the wait list in Texas (cruby insurance) and my number for a blood type B kidney was # 3748 when I went to the Little Rock VA for a regular check-up. My primary care doctor referred me to the Renal Specialist (kidney doctors) and IMMEDIATELY....I was approved for a transfer to the Ark/Louisiana wait list...that was a Tuesday in September of 2006. The next week, I received a letter from the University of Arkansas Medical Center(cohabitating with the Central Ark VA) and they informed me that I was #18 on the wait list for a type B idney. I opted for a High Risk transplant ...hat just means an older or more questionable donor...no dopers and no one over the age of 65. That letter came to me on Oct 1, 2006. After a real challenging day at the dialysis center, Deb took me to the Sonic for a cheese burger and some onion rings. I wasnt supposed to eat cheese, but I was dying and I treated myself. Anyway, w went to bed early and at 11pm, my BNL woke us up banging on the door !!! I had turned off my phone so I missed the call...but, Davis was on my call me too list along with my Dad.....Dad got the call first, then he called Dave....this was on Oct 11, 2006. I ALOST MISSED my call and they would have gone onto the next patient !!! I arrived at UAMS at around 1AM and they checked me in. My donor was a 53 year old black fellow who suddenly expired, and was a DONOR !!! As the ARORA team was harvesting his gifts to us, I was taken into the dialysis ward for ONE MORE ROUND OF the needles and the chair....I fell asleep and when I was awakened the next AM...I was being prepped for my transplant surgery. I had my surgery at 2pm the 12th of October 2006...Columbus Day...and a whole new world which I ad forgotten...opened up to me again !!! After thanking the transplant team, I got down on my knees (something I was too sick to do before) and I committed my life to serving the Lord, I had my Road to Damascus moment and I am ever mindful today for everything I am blessed with. Now, I am an advocate for organ transplants and especially...an advocate for the Kingdom of God and the people who have yet to meet Him here....its too late to meet Him there....soooo !!! I already KNEW this, but the Enemy will use any tppl he has to defeat you....and he was tooling me pretty well !!! There was and is a small still voice that keeps telling me Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and ALL these things will be added unto YOU !!! Prayers (thank you , my friends and prayer partners) ad a resolve to accept WHATEVER God had in store for me.....THAT WAS THE REAL VICTORY !!!! Here it is, 8 years later, and I am living one day to the next !!! Sure, I make plans and set appointments...but, I know...perhaps a little better than most...that EACH DAY is a gift from the Lord !!! Does that mean you should live like Hell ???? Well, only if you plan to LIVE, for eternity, IN HELL !!! I have been show the Glory of the Father, and I can tell you, people.....ITS AWESOME !!! I my not get another year here, but I WILL SPEND this next year working for that Kingdom. I am always here to help you see it and to PRAY with you and for you. Just let me know how I can help....NOTHING is more important than YOUR relationship with the Father and the love of Christ, who died for us all !!! CALL ME.........
