Im not trying to overwhelm anyone with homework, but listed below are the issues mentioned at our 2 Neighborhood Chats. Thanks again to our previous hosts, Rev. Glenda Harbert at St. Paul Pres and Principal Kay Scott at Santa Rita Elem. Our next Chat will be September 16th at St. Mark Pres on Johnson Street and will include food! Come eat and talk, but not at the same time! SMD 5 Neighborhood Chat To-Do List From July 21, 2014 Address stray dog problem on/near Howard Street, and what to do “after hours.” Is there someone to pick up animals then? More effective approach needed for feral cat population. More education of best trees and plant materials for San Angelo. City beautification effort needed. Enlist Extension Service. Promote Brown and Santa Rita Parks. Consider bond election to pay for streets rather than general fund. Is federal jail being built on Executive Drive? Yes... A gray water ordinance is needed...and encourage its use. More street lights are needed to deter crime. Keep heavy trucks off residential street and out of neighborhoods. Consider Compassionate City designation. Stronger traffic control needed within city to address growing 18-wheeler traffic. Maintain fair wages for employees. Improve public transportation. Can City distribute meeting agendas? Push them out rather than post them… SMD 5 Neighborhood Chat To-Do List From August 25, 2014 Move Board and Commission Meetings to evenings to assist in attendance. Consider body cameras on police officers. Use storm water dollars at Sulphur Draw and Santa Rita Park to increase storm water quality. (The previous item made me think of a similar request I heard during the campaign…) Use storm water dollars for improvements to Parkview Lakes to increase storm water quality. City needs to be more aggressive in seeing to the removal of dead trees hanging over streets, as they pose a danger to cars and people. Consider off-street parking requirement for day cares within neighborhoods to alleviate insufficient on-street parking. At minimum, prohibit parking near intersections where a driver’s view can be blocked. Implement landscape ordinance that requires a percentage of construction budget to be for property beautification/xeriscaping that recognizes our water conservation desires… Be more aggressive with demolition of dangerous buildings. More street lights in neighborhoods. What would you like to add? Let me know! Liz
