Im really exited by this great news. The Crawford County Economic Development Corporation has been awarded a grant of nearly $100,000 to assist local farmers markets, producers, and entrepreneurs. Details in the press release below. Outstanding work by our Executive Director, David Connolly. October 1, 2014 The United States Department of Agriculture has announced the Crawford County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) is a 2014 Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) grant recipient. CCEDC will receive $99,179 in federal funds from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, over a two year award cycle. The funding completes establishment of the Crawford Farmers Markets Grow program. This CCEDC initiative seeks to expand demand for locally and regionally produced food products, while working collaboratively with vendors and markets alike to enhance current business models. Specifically, the program will provide a variety of point of sale service enhancements for Ferryville’s Market in the Park, the Gays Mills Farmers Market, and the Prairie Street Farmers Market in Prairie du Chien. There will likewise be a complementary focus on development of marketing plans and advertising. In addition, Crawford Farmers Markets Grow will pursue creation of a new farmers market to be located in an unserved community in Crawford County. “A local farmers market is a low-cost, high-value venue in which to start and gain experience managing a small business. We want to ensure that everything possible is being done to help Crawford County businesses, entrepreneurs and food producers have access to the most rewarding local market opportunities. Crawford Farmers Markets Grow is a dedicated resource for just that purpose.” said David Connolly, Executive Director of the Crawford County Economic Development Corporation. The goals of FMPP grants are to increase domestic consumption of, and access to, locally and regionally produced agricultural products, and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets. Other 2014 FMPP award recipients from Wisconsin include the UW Madison, the Janesville Farmers’ Market, Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership, Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council (Independence, WI), and Home Grown Cow (Evansville, WI).
