Im really struggling tonight. Im struggling because a young 20ish youth felt that life was so bad that she could no longer take it and jumped off a bridge down into oncoming traffic. Im struggling that the silence in our community is deafening to the point where I question if we are so numb to the pain in our community, that somehow, we arent responsible; responsible for being so numb, we just now expect it to happen and when it does, we are like the herd, moving past the death of one of our own. We look at the body, laying there, and we put our heads down, and we continue to trudge down the road where we await the next person laying there. And then, after a while, we see them, but we have no more feelings. Did our community fail? Did we failed to stay in touch enough to read the signals? Did we fail to have enough support in places that people feel that they can reach when the pain of this journey overreached her capacity to cope? Did we failed this young girl by the silence that we hold because we know deep inside of each of us, we may one day be that person on the bridge? I always take news like this hard. I always wonder what could have been done to save this life. I wonder whether Pacific Institute by their hate filled actions led someone to despair. I wonder- what could I have done.... Allison
