Imagine what would happen if we were able to inventory all the MANY amazing talents and change-makers right here within our own Lake Pepin Region doing great things around the world, then deploy them into Operation Cultureshed Case in point: right here in Red Wing at the Red Wing Innovation Incubator is a documentary filmmaker and producer who currently is working on a project highlighting a public art and performance-based cultural park in Venezuela that has won international awards and acclaim for its social justice impact and revolutionary transformation. And not long ago she wrapped up the multi-year project filming the story of Springboard for the Arts project Irrigate in St. Paul along the University Ave/Green Line Corridor. A project that drew over 30 million positive media hits to the area during its years of difficult transformation leveraging art/artists as a big part of the successful solution to not only help it survive, but thrive! The same project that propelled Springboard for the Arts to the national stage as effective innovators and leaders in the creative placemaking field. Imagine what she, and others like her, could do to tell the collective story of Red Wing and entire Lake Pepin Region if we put them to work here - engaged with our own creative placemaking work. In the region here we have a vast pool of creative talents (some new, some seasoned, some genious) that are mostly doing work for others outside our region or that we have yet to discover. Like this example; a software developer working at a local industry who happens to have an MFA in Jazz Studies, is an accomplished musician and spent a number of years teaching in higher education. Once completing an inventory of our social/creative capital right here in our own region, well be in strong position to better utilize the resources we have, foster connections that effectively pool resources to accomplish shared goals, and create opportunities community strengthening and economic vibrancy!
