Important things to know about Windows 10: One OS for all devices: Windows 10 will run on Windows phones, tablets, laptops, and PCs. Start Menu is back: This was the biggest failing of Windows 8 and had the most negative impact on user adoption. Start Menu is better than ever: Taking cues from the Windows 8 Start Screen, the new Start Menu can now have live tiles, pinned applications, is fully user configurable. Search: Searches can be done directly from the Start Menu without opening a browser, searching the Internet and the local computer or network. Self-Adjusting: If you use a tablet, Windows 10 will automatically configure itself for a touch interface, with a full screen Start Menu, but as soon as you attach a keyboard, it will readjust to the normal desktop view with smaller Start Menu, on the fly. This function is being called Continuum. Desktops: THIS IS A BIG ONE. Just like you have always been able to switch between running applications, now you can create whole desktops of applications and switch between them. You might have one with personal tasks running and one with business tasks. Its up to you! Release Date: Will be released in Mid-2015 Preview Version: Will be released tomorrow. Eager users could install this on a spare PC or laptop to try it out. There WILL be rough edges...should not be used for production work. Pricing: Unknown, but may be free, at least for Windows 8 users, if not others. The 10 might also indicate the price....who knows?
