Imprisoned poets -- Update on the demonstration The two poets are no longer being held in Evin prison in Tehran, and this is very good news!!! They are still facing charges, however, and have been released under extremely high bail. I thought that you might like to see the brief report that I got regarding what happened at the demonstration that was held outside of the Iranian Embassy in Stockholm, last Monday. “The demonstration went well, we were about 50 people in the ice cold snow outside the Iranian Embassy. They took notice of us being there by calling the police, but we held our speeches and read our poems and there was a good media attention to it. “Those talking were: Ola Larsmo, head of Swedish PEN*; Astrid Trotzig, Chairman of The Swedish Writers Union together with Nasrim Madani Zad, writer in asylum at Växsjö (I dont know the translation of this word - she was given refuge by the city as a writer); Roya Zarrin, participant of the translation program A Resistance Movement on my Desk, now seeking asylum in Sweden; and me reading one of Fatemes poems (Run). Also we read a support letter from Swedish Amnesty.” -- Linn Hansen, Curator of the Goteborg Poetry Festival [*International PEN, the worldwide association of writers, was founded in 1921 to promote friendship and intellectual cooperation among writers everywhere; to emphasize the role of literature in the development of mutual understanding and world culture; to fight for freedom of expression; and to act as a powerful voice on behalf of writers harassed, imprisoned, and sometimes killed for their views. - See more at: pen.org/pen-world#sthash.HoU5epii.dpuf ]
