In 1946 to 1948 we lived in a small town Tongaat, which is north of Durban, this is the town where the sugar mill was. There were 5 families living there each in a house built no top of a hill, and nearby was the large Indian settlement,in those days only Indians worked for the sugar company.Tongaat was a paradise lush and green with fruit trees growing every where, our closest town was Maidstone, that is where i started school in sub A,a bus used to pick us up in the morning, and bring us home in the afternoon, and everything was free paid for by the sugar company. My elder brother built a foofie slide from a tree on top to a tree at the bottom of the hill, and who had to have the first try,but me,off i went flying down near the bottom i heard my brother shouting stop yourself, how could i my feet never touched the ground,i slammed into the bottom tree, that is what stopped me.They came running to me,instead of asking if i am all right,i was told how stupid i was to not let go of the slide.I suffered a cut to my forehead and sat on the steps waiting for my mom to come home.Thinking back i have really been through the wars,if anything went wrong it did with me,i had a tooth pulled i Maidstone without anesthetic because the Dentist was waiting for his supplies from Durban.Had mt Tonsils removed when i was 32 years old,but i must admit i have enjoyed my life.Nite to all sleep well love to allXXXXX
