In ‘70s New York, Martha Cooper was a pioneer in documenting the art that rose around her on the street. In South Africa recently, she traced the paint-covered street cars she saw traveling across Soweto to those in New York in the ‘70s. Unlike in New York, however, these trains’ murals were left untouched by the transit authority, most likely thanks to a lack of resources.
