In Appreciation from Woodenbong. The Woodenbong legs of the Brakes Direct Border Ranges Rally which was held on Saturday 2nd August has proven to be an absolute winner for the local community. The actual rally was won by Matt van Tuinen and Erin Kelly driving a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti 4WD over Ian Menzies and Robert McGowan in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6 4WD by only one second. Third outright, in what has to be the drive of the rally, was John Spencer and young son Lochlan in a Classic 2WD Nissan 240RS. Timothy Wilkins and Denis Neagle won the Gary Motorsport Tyres NSW Rally Championship section of the rally in their Nissan Silvia S15 2WD. Matt van Tuinen won the Hankook Tyre Queensland Rally Championship component. Queensland won the NSW verses Queensland Border Shield. The rally “Origin” fight for the flag has begun. Bring on 2015 in the beautiful Border Ranges of Northern NSW. Locally the Border Ranges Rally brought spectator enjoyment, excitement for the local school children who flagged off the rally cars, helicopter rides for the adventurous and great rally roads for the drivers to experience. Gold Coast Tweed Motorsporting Club Inc., a group of wonderful volunteers organising amazing events such as this Rally and bringing much needed opportunities for fundraising and increased trade to local businesses and the roll on effect is felt by many communities is to be commended. In this instance, Woodenbong Progress Association were the fortunate recipients of being able to voluntarily cater for the large crowds that accompanied the event. These funds raised are expended back into the community for projects like the half basketball court, upgrade work on the showground kitchen, a new shelter for the Urbenville MPS Hospital respite area and the soon to be outdoor gym in Woodenbong, just to name a few. Opportunities like this are treasured by small communities. So, with much appreciation our thanks go to the many hard working, diligent volunteers and interested parties and anyone who gave in any way, and gave so feely of their time to make this rally event the wonderful success it was, and we are looking forward to the BBR coming back in 2015.
