In October 1987, Blaise Campaore with support from France and other international bodies organised a coup to remove Thomas Sankara from office. Sankara was assassinated three days later despite pleads from several African leaders including Ghanas president JJ Rawlings. Sankaras body was dismembered, mutilated and subsequently buried in an unknown village cemetery by Campaores army. Dont forget, Campaore was Sankaras best friend and during Sankaras reign, he made Blaise his right hand man. Sankara ruled for just 4 years but Campaore and his allies including the amnesty international and IMF, whom Sankara had cut ties with, claimed the 4 years were too much a tenure to endure. Sankaras beautiful wife, Mariam and little baby fled the country and only returned years later as paupers. Sankara had only one car, four bicycles, a guitar and a fridge. He reduced his salary drastically and embarked on several ambitious projects that still make him one of the best leaders ever to grace Africa. Sankara as president rode on motor cycle from Ouaga to Bobo alongside four army friends. He converted the military food reserve into the biggest mall in Burkina Faso opened to the public. The first shopping mall in Burkina. He never switched on the air condition in his office in an attempt to cut down cost. He sold the presidential fleet of Mercedez cars and deposited into the national coffers. He stopped the importation of food from Europe saying whoever feeds you, controls you..He renamed the country from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso (Land of Incorruptible people). Yet he was murdered by Blaise. Fast forward October 2014, 27 years into Blaise Campaores reign, he is been hunted by the same army and people that supported him. Blaise killed Sankara, displayed his mutilated body to the public in the Arc center in Ouaga and received cheers from his supporters. He slashed the throat of his own friend, a man who had trusted him so much. This Blaise Campaore, after serving 27 years still wants 5 more. The army is chasing him to face death. To taste what Sankara tasted and Blaise has vanished. Hiding under bushes and pleading with the people. You killed your friend because France still wanted domination. You killed your brother becuase the international world had said his four year reign was too much. Now you have ruled for 27 years and you think its not enough. You want to rule for 34 years and they say no. Why do you run? Sankaras ghost wil hunt you.
