In Yesterdays News: Fox25 Zip Trip selects Chair City Kimberly Petalas News Staff Writer #GARDNER — Fox25 Morning News is heading to Gardner on July 25 for a Zip Trip to learn about the city and the interesting people who reside here. “The crew came out to do some scouting of the city and it was between Monument Park, Dunn’s, and Helen Mae,” said Mayor Mark Hawke. “There is another event at Dunn (Park) that day, so it would be really busy and they felt there wasn’t enough parking at Monument Park.” The mayor said the Helen Mae Sauter school site was selected because of the big chair, ample parking, and on-location restrooms. Elizabeth Penney, Director of Member Services and Programs at the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce, is one of three members of a committee formed to work with the producers to assist with selecting segment locations and interviews. Ms. Penney worked along Economic Development Coordinator Joshua Cormier and Jennifer Vickrey, Mayor Hawke’s secretary to complete the task. “Basically, we are working on getting communication out to residents and businesses about the event,” said Ms. Penney. “Producers are looking through all of the surveys they are receiving from residents about where to go and who to interview so it’s important that everyone fills those out.” The survey, which can be found on the Fox25 website under the “Zip Trips” tab, asks questions about the must-see places in the city, famous residents, the best spot to bring children, annual events, and who residents would consider their “Hometown Hero.” “This is really a chance for us to showcase Gardner and everything it has to offer,” said Mayor Hawke. “Hopefully everyone can put aside their differences, put their best foot forward and really show everyone what a wonderful place Gardner is.” Fox25 Morning News crew has made stops in 190 communities around the state in 11 seasons of Zip Trips. The live broadcast occurs every Friday from the end of May through August. Members of the community are encouraged to attend the Zip Trip to show their Gardner pride on July 25 from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Helen Mae Sauter school. There will be a Kids’ Fun Zone, complete with a bounce house and various activities. To fill out the survey or for more information on Zip Trips, visit myfoxboston and click on the “Zip Trips” tab.
