In a deeply divided decision, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled Thursday that employees at religious nonprofits — including hospitals — may sue their employers for discrimination, as long as their jobs have nothing to do with religion. The decision could limit which employees can be fired from Catholic hospitals and other religious organizations, said Jeffrey Needle, an attorney who wrote an amicus (friend of the court) brief on behalf of the plaintiff.
