In case you missed it: About 200 people attended the Veterans Day event at the Strategic Air and Space Museum emceed by KETVs John Oakey on Tuesday. Following the presentation of colors by American Legion Post 129, the National Anthem was performed by Sean Flattery. Lt. Gen. Roger Lempke (Ret.) delivered the keynote address, highlighting the service of veterans in America’s conflicts. Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, The Cold War, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Afganistan were recognized. Dr. Mike McGinnis, executive director of the museum, spoke on the mission of the museum to be the preeminent national museum on the Cold War and the people who served in it. He announced that the museum is taking oral histories from veterans who served in any military branch, but especially people who served at SAC. McGinnis said that the museum will continue to honor the past by becoming a place where young people will be excited by science and technology.
