In explanation, Shelly has been good at posting info on Spikes medical crisis, but not all my friends get her posts, so I just asked her to tag me. This whole ordeal has overwhelmed me and I havent made an attempt to communicate via FB. Short version, Spike had a scratch on his arm that became infected. On Thursday morning, he consented to go to Quick Care, where he got an oral antibiotic. After work he had a high temp so I took him to the ER. They admitted him and by Friday morning, the Emergency Task Force swarmed his room to bring him to ICU. Friday was fraught with a struggle by the staff to keep his blood pressure up to a safe level. At one point it was 40/38! He was treated with three powerful BP meds and three powerful antibiotics. He also was placed on a ventilator. We were told he was terminally ill and they would do whatever possible to turn that around. After an ultrasound on his arm, it was determined that surgery was the only alternative to save his life, but his medical condition may not allow him to survive surgery. His arm was filled with pools of infection, which were cleaned out. This process will be performed again on Sunday. The goal is to get him off the BP meds and take him off the ventilator. It looks like hell remain in ICU for several more days. Do you remember at the beginning of this post I said the short version? The last 48 hours seem much longer! Weve gone from disbelief and despair to hopefulness and thankfulness.
