In light of the recent tragic event on a farm in the Derrycarn area, our farming constituents may be interested in our FarmSafe Awareness Initiative. The ‘FarmSafe’ initiative, launched in February 2013 by the Minister for Agriculture & Rural Development, was developed by the industry through the Farm Safety Partnership and to date over 4,000 farm family members have attended the awareness events, exceeding its initial target of 3,000. These events aim to raise awareness of Health and Safety in a bid to reduce injury and deaths on Farms and cover the 4 main dangers on farm: Working at Height; Slurry Risks; Handling Livestock; and Working with Machinery. FarmSafe Awareness events are free to farmers, farm family members and employees age 17 and over. A leaflet is attached for your information. For those that are unable to attend a FarmSafe event they can access the online training tool, FarmSafeNet at farmsafenet.org Attending a FarmSafe event or completing FarmSafeNet online will be a requirement when accessing funding within agreed schemes of the new Rural Development Programme. Farmsafe Awareness is funded through the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme and delivered through the Countryside Agri Rural Partnership.
