In my brothers own words, he emailed the following message and picture of my father. He unearthed this photo from a stack of large format negatives which took some manipulation to get a positive image: It depicts my father as a member of the Koninklijke Luchtmacht {Royal Dutch Air Force} in Eindhoven, Netherlands most probably in the early fifties judging by the partially disassembled F-84 Thunderstreak. I know so little of family history but it is true he fought for the Dutch in Indonesia was captured and interred as a POW in Nagasaki, Japan. He survived the atomic bombing there because he was enslaved in the coal mines. After repatriation the doctors told him he would never be a father but of course his five children proved otherwise. Because of the turmoil of the Indonesian independence movement the family moved to the Netherlands where he joined the Air Force and retired as a Sergeant Major then moved the family to the United States.
