In my younger days I was involved in local elections as a canvasser and it was a prerequisite that a exit poll was taken at the polling station. Today, identical to the last elections at inverkeithing not one person attempted to make eye contact or conversation either on the way in or on the way out with the exception of one old dear on her mobility scooter. Good morning was the welcome to which I dutifully replied the same. No interest in where my allegiance lay. Since the campaign started some 3 years ago I have had one canvasser in Johnston Park some 6 months ago to which I debated openly looking to be swayed. To say the responses were negative would be polite. Today I am confronted with three people ranting as to why they have to use a pencil and not a pen. The point of it all is I feel the whole thing has been concentrated on two minorities and it has not been a fair campaign for any true Scotsman. The days of Wallace and the Bruce are history just as in a very short time I suspect the names Salmond and Cameron will be too. I have openly voted Labour all my life, rightly or wrongly. Do I have faith in Milliband...no. do I believe any politician.... No. Whatever the result I just hope and pray that this farce of a episode in our countries life does not cause Ill feeling or decay to relationships and that the country can move on and concentrate on building a future for our kids and grandkids instead of worrying about a few ego trippers. Rare but rant over.
