In our overhead devotion this morning, Director of Pastoral Care - TopicsExpress

In our overhead devotion this morning, Director of Pastoral Care Steve Brown reminds us that with faith, it is possible to be both realistic and have hope, regardless of our circumstances. Psalm 25:21 says, “My hope is in you, Lord!” An airplane engine caught on fire. The pilot said, “don’t worry we can fly with three engines.” Then the second engine caught on fire to which the pilot said, “it’s O.K. we can fly with two engines.” About that time the third engine caught on fire. The pilot is seen walking down the aisle with a parachute. He turns to the passengers and says, “No one panic, I’m going for help.” As we learn too often, remission does not necessarily mean cure. But, as a person of faith, I believe it is possible to have both hope and a realistic view of illness, or in other words, a balance of “hoping” and “coping”. Just to get through our normal daily lives requires denial of the bad things that can happen, let alone deal with disease. Hope is important to our spiritual and emotional health. Hope also reminds us that with patience, teaching, support and love; we can learn to cope with even terrible news and become more than conquerors. May we pray? Lord, we seek your wisdom and courage for the facing of each hour. In your holy name we pray.—Amen
