In perfect symmetry, the eight day festival of Chanukah draws to an end and the twelve days of Christmas begin. I want to wish everyone the fullest joy and hope in this season of light. I also wanted to share the following picture where I congratulated Prime Minister Harper last week in Montreal on the words he spoke at a candle lighting ceremony in the Gelber Centre. As so many in the audience said, This Prime Minister gets it! “I know the religious significance of Chanukah, but of course, there is the general metaphor, and that is: the light driving out the darkness. And when I think back over the past year, thoughts of light and darkness come to mind. One moment of light was my trip to Israel… where we really saw that beacon of light in what is often a very dark, very difficult part of the world. It was a tremendous experience for me and… for all of us who were there. “The experiences we in Canada and others around the world have had recently with extreme Jihadism should make us remember that Israel has lived with this for every breath of its existence for over 65 years. Thank God we have the State of Israel for showing its light.”
