In regards to amnesty: The average illegal immigrant has a negative tax burden of about $14,000 a year. If you give those individuals a work visa, register them, make sure they pay taxes, that negative tax burden actually jumps to over $22,000 a year because they are now, as legal residents, qualified for dozens and dozens of federal and state programs. Amnesty of any kind encourages others to come and increases chain migration, so even if you cut out the federal and state programs, through chain migration we will still accrue more debt. Making an illegal legal actually increases the debt burden. Bringing illegals into the fold, having them pay taxes, etc., is not an option. Any type of amnesty, legal worker status, etc., for those here illegally will massively increase the debt. There are no arguments to be made, that are fiscally responsible, that would support amnesty/legal status/work visa (all of these are amnesty). Republicans should not be rewarding illegals, period.
