In response to many of my friends inquiring about my moms health, she has alot of fight in her I tell ya, she is steadily improving. She has gone from puree food, mechanical food, and now regular food, due to her swallowing she is still on nectar fluids but her speech pathologist gave her a cup of real coffee and she did well without choking!!Yipee She has sensation in her left hand and arm but still no use with them. She has taken steps using both legs, with a side walker and help from her PT groupies who she has come to love and trust. First day she walked she received a standing ovation it was awesome... She has learned to pedal walk in her wheelchair, tires easily, and really has to concentrate because she forgets about that left foot. She really wants to come home. Yesterday I was able to take her for a wheelchair walk, first time she had a chance to be outside since Nov.25th, she really enjoyed that! She is soooo loved there, we had a meeting last week with all her therapists and the director and they told us mom was a favorite. No matter what it is mom gives it her all, always with a smile and is so kind with them. Has great humor still. All we can do is wait but we are all so pleased with her progress. A big thanks to my sisters for all their wonderful help too. Claudia is dealing with a back problem herself and Marsha takes time from all her family in Redmond and spends days here to help which isnt easy for her . They told my mom she must of been a great mom for all the time her girls spend with her, and said they knew she was because she has wonderful daughters. Boy you should see the big smile on her face! I can only hope that I can be as kind, loving, and a fighter that my mom is in my older days--She is a marvelous lady and loved by so many. Thanks for all your concerns, kind thoughts and blessings.
