In some parts of the Netherlands they will have before Saint Nicholas and Black Pete the celebration of Saint Martinus were they go with selfmade at school lanterns door to door to sing as you see in the video and in return they get fruit, candy or even, when they go to toyshops, little toys. I did it too many years ago, first with my mom when I was very small, later on with my best friend. This celebration is on the 11th of Nov. I remember one time, first time for that Chinees restaurant and we were their first Sint Maarten Singers My best friend and I were walking closeby when the owner came out and winked at us and saying, please, come in, please, come in......My best friend whispers to me I don´t think we should, you know what they tell about those restaurants, they put cats and dogs in their food, maybe they want now some children I looked at her and whispered back Rubbish, I don´t believe those stories, I´m going in I grabbed her arm and pulled her with me to the Chinees man who held the door open for us. It was nice warm inside and the smell of delicious Chinees Food. Walking over beautiful red carpet to the back of the restaurant escorted by family members as it was a family business, close to the entrance of the kitchen is were we stopped. My best friend standing behind me very nervous, probably thinking that we would put in the next Chinees meal, lol. The owner: Wait foL Cook to come and my wife, then you sing So, meanwhile waiting they gave us a cup of natural Jazmin Tea. Wife came with a big smile and also the cook with his assistants and all the waiters all with big smilly faces. We started singing....they were clapping when we finished our first song and wanted that we sung it again. I said: We can do better, we will sing all our Sint Maarten Songs So we did and when we finished, the cook gave us mini mini loempias and they made photos of us, also we got a handfull of wrapped fortune cookies and as being the first ones a small Chinees lantern. When they walked us back to the frontdoor they were saying: Thank you, thank you and please, tell otheL childLen to come to Lestaurant to get mini loempia and foLtune cookies We did tell the others and we started to change our strategy, go first to those new foreign restaurants and shops, as they will give you a lot of cool stuff, hehehe youtu.be/kHAu0X_uha4
