In the gospel according to Saint Luke, we read what one would call - TopicsExpress

In the gospel according to Saint Luke, we read what one would call the basic requirements of a prayer. In Luke chapter 11, we are told of that day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” We all know Jesus was a good teacher and He illustrated to the disciples the make up of a prayer. He said: “Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread.Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation... You see, what Jesus told His disciples was that for a prayer to be complete, it must have the elements captured above. You have to recognize the God you are praying to; you have to show He is the soul provider, Him alone; you have to admit to Him of the sins you have committed and seek His grace over other things you may want Him to address. The list goes on I have seen over the last couple of days people posting prayers for the country. Nowhere have I seen any admission of sin. Nowhere have I seen those praying admit to their own shortcomings or even that of the country. There are things the country has done in ages that are outright against Gods teaching yet we never admit. How then can we seek His hand on other matters? Margreat Ogolla in the book The River and the Source talked openly against this religiosity where people want to show they are so religious yet possess kindergarten level knowledge of the same doctrines they are preaching about. If we want to have genuine prayers for Kenya, we can do so; but we must do it with an honest spirit and a desire to be fully cleansed.
