In the past few weeks I have seen more paintball exposure than ever before. First was the NCPA on CBS Sports, earlier tonight I watched some local stuff (NEXL) on NESN (New England Sports Network) and just now I saw this commercial. Add to that the other stuff (commercials, sitcoms) and it looks like, as a sport, were getting some notice. Like I said before (somewhere), activities such as ours take time and warming up to. It helps that church groups frequent our fields to have some fun (maybe let the devil out), big Willie companies use our facilities for team building exercises and Mothers Day is a HIT for moms wanting that payback (since our births). Our popularity, rise to the main stream, will run the same course as skate boarding and snow boarding. I started skating in 1984 in Hermosa Beach, CA. Back then it was nothing much. It wasnt until I was in high school (1985) that the real surge started. Dog Town Skates and Powell Peralta were getting national attention. Tony Hawk was a nimble 12 year old making a name for himself with the help of his father, Frank Hawk (RIP). I digress. My point is this: All these bandit sports (Now dubbed X sports) were, at one time, illegal, frowned upon, not allowed. NOW.... Tony Hawk is a household name, Shawn White has his name on underwear and gum, EVERYONE knows who the Metal Mulisha is... We are on the same path. Everyone here is a part of the history of this sport. Living Legends, Big Game, Fulda, PSP, NCPA.... In 20 years some of yall will be names that everyone knows. Some will be OG legends and some will be phenoms. Regardless, our time is on the horizon people. Welcome to where we wan to be.
