In the spirit of celebration of Yoruba brotherliness, here is a timeline of the sons of Oduduwa in history and before it. Pre-history and till date: - The Yorùbás built most massive defence structure on earth, Sungbos Eredo Second only to the Great walls of China. - The Yorubas of Igbo-ora have the highest occurrence of multiple birts on earth making it the twin capital of the world. 15th Century: -A phoenix city-state grew from a people vanquished by the Nupes, grew so mighty as to control a very large part of West Africa, sacking kings for inhumane acts, a strength for the defenceless, chastising Ashanti for threatening Atakpame in present day Togo. -Having a wonderful industrial life, Builders, Craftsmen, Texile manufacturers, farmers, Elite army etc. Like in Europe where people name their kids after their cities, e.g Paris, Sydney, Milan, London. We had beautiful names like, AdárabíÒyó, Òyóloláwà, etc. -Portugal-allied Edo kingdom was attacked twice by the Oyo widow makers, as the only West African force thats capable for that. 18th Century: -The nomadic Fulani Jihad started, and Òyó now weakened by internal strifes, and external threats had to face the test of her life against the people the French calls Peul, and the Hausas call Fula, Fulbe, or Fulani, the rebellion of the generallisimo of Òyó, and the Fulanis who had replaced the Yorubas in Oyós national army under Afonja staged a palace coup which killed the later, heralding the annexing of Ilorin to the Sokoto Caliphate, and providing a foothold for the Fulani to take the rest of Yorùbá land. 19th Century: -Oyos decline asks for a successor big-brother state which will protect the others for tribute, and uphold order in the land. -Fulanis saw this as a rare opportunity to make Yoruba land go the Hausa way. But the Ibadan Generals ordered a tactical maneuver where the battered front became the back line and the battle ready back line became the frontline speedily moving north to intercept the Fulanis in Osogbo, -An Ibadan General named Àjàyí Ògbóríefòn led this onslaught and he and his infantry men tagged Baba ni n másàá, The Fulanis were professionally plucked off their horsebacks by Ibadan arrows, this made the remanats flee northwards and they were pursued by the General and his men, never to bother Oòduà land anymore. -Ibadan had the largest population of black men on earth in this century. September 23rd, 1886: -The Yorubas signed a treaty of peace to end a 16 years war, never to fight each other again but to be brothers forever, the evergreen Pèrègún tree was planted to commemorate the day, the tree still exist in Ìmèsí-ile, Èkìtì State till date. The Yoruba war saw a lot of Prisoners of War being sold to European slave traders springing up Yoruba settlements in Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, Trinidad and a host of other South American countries 1830: -Richard Lander explored the shorelines of Yoruba, Ijaw, etc lands. -January 1900: Royal Niger Company (Now Unilever[Makers of CloseUp toothpaste]) sold their area of influence, I.e Nigeria to Great Britain for a sum of 865,000 British Pounds (The country we die to keep united was an ordinary British merchandise being sold and bought!). The South of the Niger was called Southern Protectorate, made up by the YorubaLand Protectorate, Oil rivers protectorate, Eastern/IgboLand Protectorate. The legal tender was the British pounds and West African Pounds. January 1914: Northern and Southern Protectorates were amalgamated 1950s-1960s: -The Yoruba of the Western Region had the highest paid civil servants in Africa. - The most social ethnic nationality in Africa. - The happiest people on earth (Source; HPI happinessshow) -The first television station in West Africa (Western Nigeria) - Largest city in Africa (Ibadan) -Tallest sky scrapper in Tropical Africa (Cocoa House, Ibadan) - Highest exporter of Cocoa on earth -E.T.C - A successful guerrilla against the government forces by Yoruba peasant farmers and hunters guild - Yoruba land was invaded through the Eastern corridor and a shabbily built resistance force was enough to dislodge the invaders from Ore in the present day Ondo State. 1970s till date: Sad to say, downward trends due to; - Aguiyi Ironsis cancellation of regional government without approval from the federating units. - Tactical destruction of the Yoruba economy through unfavourable Hausa Fulani government policies and internal strives made the Oodua Investment Company and Western Nigeria Development Company decline considerably. - Awolowos ambition to rule Nigeria and give education to all, including the Northerners who have been told by their Premier that both Western Education and Yorubas are evil. - Yorubas fighting for a united Nigeria during the Biafran War, instead of ending the unfavorable union called Nigeria. - Hunting and imprisoning Yoruba sons by successive Hausa Fulani Military juntas. -Reuben Fashorantis mistake. - Morally weak Yoruba men assimilated into the Nigerian system as image makers of the looters. ~Akinadé™
