In this age of technology, getting somewhere (a new friends for coffee, a restaurant, or a vacation spot) is quite different than it used to be. When I was a kid, we would get directions that often included peoples residences (Before the old Johnsons place..), farming references (Past the dairy, by the 40..), and random details (Remember where Mom hit that deer that one time? Near there..). As hard to decipher these directions were at times, we got where we needed to go. And usually that route included Memory Lane! These days, everyone seems to rely on their smart phones GPS. I myself have used it from time to time. Ive noticed in my experiences, if I missed a turn, or wandered off in some way, the system rerouted me to get me to my destination. This often lead to a longer route, detours, or even long, looping backtracking. Frustrating? Yes. However, it usually stemmed from my mistakes, and the GPS found me a new way (some would call this the scenic route). I was pondering one day on Gods guidance and His patience. Then I thought about the new destination for my soul (Heaven), and how I was getting there. If God has a path in mind for me, I want to take it. I not only want to get to the destination, I want to get there the way God wants me to. I want to see what He wants me to see, experience what He would have me experience, and share the road with the people He wants me to share it with. That being said, if I wander astray, in my human tendency to do so, its infinitely reassuring that Hes gracious and patient, and my destination doesnt change. Hes SO loving and forgiving, that He reroutes my way, to account for my mistakes. For anyone whos used GPS or has the imagination to understand, I think I speak correctly for all of us in saying that USUALLY the original path is the most efficient (strictly speaking technology here - no doubt for Gods path for me). So I pray that each of us would seek the path God has laid out for us, trusting that Hes loving, not to mention infinitely wise. [Divine Direction, written 9/21/2014]
