****Independent Artist Must Read***** This article speaks about the 13 Dos and Donts when attending and performing at open Mics. This article is brought to you by MusicClout I see a lot of artist make these mistakes and I use to all the time to. Check em out to see if there is anything you can improve on: 1. DONT Play and Leave. (I hate when I see artists do this. No one really knows you, stick around, network. You might meet another artist similar to your movement or might meet a fan) 2. DONT expect to be discovered. This is a NETWORKING opportunity with other musicians. Open Mics only lead to paid gigs if you work you contacts and follow up! 3. DONT Just say Good Job. Be specific and sincere like, I really liked your hook or Your low range sounds great! So they know you were paying attention. 4. DO introduce others. Even if you arent interested in collaborating with someone, maybe you can give someone a good lead. Be Helpful. They may return the favor :) 5. DONT Heckle! Were here to support and motivate. If anything give them a word of advice once they leave the stage. 6. DO be gracious. If only one person is listening, play just for that person, and yourself. 7. DONT Talk loudly while someone is performing. Everyone chats, just be respectful about it. 8. DO play contrasting songs. ( One fast, One slow, One in major, One in minor etc.) 9. DONT play songs in the same key back to back. The listener may not know off hand, but unconsciously the listener will become bored. 10. DONT Apologize before a song. People want you to be excited about your song, not hear excuses of why it sucks 11. DO make friends with the bartenders, host, and all staff. People like to work with their friends, so be a friend to everyone you meet. 12. DO have fun! If its not fun, whats the point? 13. DO talk to everyone and remember their names. They will be impressed the next time you approach them and remember their name.
