Brought Danny home yesterday from yet another hospital stay. His blood count dropped to critical again. This time he had 6 units of blood. Will this mess ever stop?? We may have gotten some answers this time, thanks to Dr. Tim Morthland, who approached it from a different direction. He ran tests that other doctors had not done, & discovered that Dannys blood was extremely thin. It seems that the dialysis flushes vitamin K out of his system, causing his blood to be very thin. That along with the aspirin he is taking could be the problem. He has cut the aspirin [he is taking the lowest dose] in half, & added vitamin K three times a week to see if this can be corrected. Praying this is the answer we have searching for. Of course with thickening the blood, he runs the risk of another stroke, so we have to monitor his blood pressure several times a day, & keep it low. But we will do what we have to do.
