India, the worlds 2nd largest producer of fruits & vegetables, throws away 13,300 crore worth of produce annually. If we add grain to that, total yearly wastage is worth Rs.44,000 crore. Poor harvesting & storage methods accounts 20million tonnes of wasted wheat alone. Enough to feed tens of millions!!! A lot of food is actually wasted in our home too, partly because, retailers employ several methods to make you buy more than you need.. So next time you see that big discount on any food item, or buy one get one free offer, make sure you need it before buying please...!
