"Indiana recently updated its criminal code, and despite the major uptick of support for marriage equality in America, legislators approved an 18 month maximum incarceration penalty and a $10,000 fine for any couples wishing to marry who submit false information on their marriage application. That’s a big problem for gay couples because Indiana’s marriage applications are filed electronically and the automatically designated gender choice lists only “male applicant” and “female applicant” in the background data area. Apparently denying loving gay couple any legal benefits of their union is no longer sufficient. They must now face felony charges, imprisonment and heavy fines to satisfy the religious bigots like Governor Pence.
