Injury to debutant O’Brien mars West Bowling win Just a handful of games into the Bradford Sunday Alliance League season and already the usual suspects are leading the way in the race for the Premier Division title, with West Bowling and Buttershaw White Star both recording 5-1 victories. Relay FC were on the wrong end of that scoreline against Bowling. Leading 2-1, Bowling’s progress was stalled after 21 minutes with a bad injury to Mikey O’Brien. The midfielder was making his debut for Bowling but dislocated his knee and a delay of more than an hour ensued. Referee Tony Grooby deserves praise for his handling of the situation and, when the game resumed, the champions hit the ground running, scoring a further three goals to bag another three-point maximum. Chris Wood scored two, with Phil Brogan, Jack Murphy and Chris Hanney also on target to maintain Bowling’s 100 per cent start to the campaign. Steve Hollingsworth hit a hat-trick and Steve Holligan a brace for White Star as they saw off Dudley Rangers in emphatic style. In a see-saw contest, Wyke Wander-ers moved into a two-goal lead against Mill Lane through Glyn Hirst, but Lane fought back to equalise. Back came Wyke though, who grabbed the winner in the closing stages through Joe Walshe. Stanningley Albion took an early lead but Thornton United produced a terrific fightback with a brace from Danny Walker and goals from Deroy White and Jerome White to win 4-1. Liam Worby enjoyed an outstanding debut for Peel Park in a 2-2 draw with Sandy Lane. The 17-year-old provided a pinpoint cross for Adam Turner to fire home as Peel Park took the lead. The visitors hit back in a five-minute period just after half-time to lead 2-1 but Peel Park levelled when Turner hit his second with a long-range shot. Reece Windhill and Adam Medley were on target for Sandy Lane. In Division One, the clash between Lane Ends and high-fliers Cuedos Rangers produced eight goals. Tom Dolan and James Morgan fired Lane Ends into a 2-1 lead but five second-half goals from Cuedos saw them run out comfortable winners. Mark Buxton and Chris Durn scored two apiece. In Division 1A, Cuedos Rangers Reserves and Whitburn Athletic shared the points in an entertaining 3-3 draw. Buttershaw Celtic took a two-goal lead with strikes from Paul Blake and Danny Odenall but then had their goalkeeper dismissed after 35 minutes against Napoleons Casino. The hosts finished the stronger to record a 6-3 victory Nick Pemberton was in outstanding form for Dog & Gun and, although the hosts had a weakened defence, they still managed to hold out for a goalless draw against Eccleshill and ruin their 100 per centstart to the season. League leaders Bradford Phoenix were beaten 2-1 by Thornbury Celtic, with Ryan Hudson on the mark for the Firebirds. In Division 1B, league leaders Ventus United remain at the summit following a 2-1 victory over Red Lion, while second-placed Swaine Green had a 4-1 victory at Wrose Bull. Goals from Jamie Kitchen, Karl Hemingborough and two from Craig Ricketts saw Alexander FC to a 4-0 victory over Apperley Bridge. Man of the match for Alexander FC was skipper Kyle Brearley. Woodman Rovers were 1-0 up at half-time to Grass Greener A in Division 3B. In the second half the hosts dominated and goals from Jamie Hopps, Ashley Smith and Kieran Barnes saw them record a 3-2 victory.
