Inner line permit system demanded in Manipur MU NEWS/IMPHAL, July 4 : Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System today observes its 2nd foundation day its office located at Nongmeibung Imphal. Speaking during the observance convener of the committee, H Ibotombi Khuman said that 30 civil society organizations of Manipur are working together to demand of Inner Line Permit System in the state. He further said that JCILPS knows that every citizen of India has the right to travel, stay and settle anywhere in any part of India. However, the joint committee is demanding Inner Line Permit System in the state of Manipur as small hilly state. Before it was annexed to Indian Territory it has a foreign office which controls the population growth of outsiders. However, the system was abolished by the then Chief Commissioner Himat Singh on November 18,1950. After the abolition of the system the population of non-indigenous people is increasing suddenly. This becomes a threat to the indigenous people of the state. The state government still remained silent in spite of the demand of the people of the state to re-implement it. The JCILPS will continue to agitate until and unless Inner Line Permit System is implemented in the state.
