Instruments such as piano, cello, guitar, brass, harps, flutes and the voices of a single soprano to a student-filled choir will be featured in this year’s Arts at the Abbey season. Concerts are held in the Abbey Basilica, 100 Belmont-Mount Holly Road in Belmont. Admission is free; donations are accepted. For information, visit bac.edu or call 704-461-6813. The schedule includes: • 8 p.m. Sept. 19: Carolina Brass with music from classical to jazz to Big Band • 8 p.m. Oct. 18, Carolina Pro Musica: The Court of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II with works from the imperial court and Italian innovation through drama and melody. • 8 p.m. Nov. 7, Jones Maruri Duo. Based in Spain, this duo features cellist Michael Kevin Jones and guitarist Agustin Maruri and music from baroque to contemporary. • 8 p.m. Dec. 6, Holiday Concert featuring the Belmont Abbey College Choir and instrumental students. • 8 p.m. Feb. 6, Poinsett Piano Trio, which has traveled to New Zealand, Germany and across the United States. • 8 p.m. Feb. 25, Music for Flutes and More featuring harpist Hannah Block and flutist Sam Stowe III along with the Gardner-Webb University Flute Ensemble. • 8 p.m. March 31, Carolina Pro Musica: St. Petersburg during Catherine the Great. • 3 p.m. May 4, Spring Concert. Abbey music students close out the college year with a variety of choral and instrumental selections both sacred and secular.
